Don Jackson Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Don Jackson Reserve is a fully fenced off-leash park on Ahern Road in Pakenham, set on a site of more than 6,000 square metres with a separate small and quiet dog zone. The draw is the pairing of secure double-gated fencing with a built-in agility course, so confident dogs get a proper run and shy ones get their own space.

The dog setup

Dogs run off-leash inside the fence but stay under effective control, per Cardinia Shire Council rules. Double-entry gates at both the east and west ends keep escapes in check. Clean up after your dog using the bins on site, leash anything showing aggression, and supervise closely around the agility equipment.

The gear list is genuinely good: tunnels, hurdles, logs and a rock mound, plus a concrete path circling the grassed area for easy walking laps. Bench seating, drinking fountains with dog bowls, bins and a sheltered spot near the entrance round it out.

Max: shade trees ring the park but the centre gets full sun, and the grass turns muddy after rain. Bring a towel and try a weekday morning if your dog finds crowds stressful.

The vibe

Weekend mornings and weekday late afternoons from 4 to 6pm are busiest, with friendly regulars and plenty of dogs for social ones to play with. For a calmer session, aim for a weekday morning or early afternoon. The wider reserve also holds a cricket oval and a children's playground, so keep the lead on until you are through the gates.

Getting there and parking

Drive to the far end of Ahern Road, between Ahern Road and Shetland Court, where a dedicated car park sits right beside the gates. The park is open around the clock. Pakenham Station is roughly two to three kilometres away, so arriving by train means a rideshare or about a 30 minute walk.

Close by with the dogs

For a post-run coffee, Nancy Eatery on Mulcahy Road and Frankies at Lakeside both welcome dogs at their outdoor tables. If Don Jackson is crowded, Greenfield Lane Fenced Dog Park is the quieter fenced alternative across town.
