Bin Chicken Park Dog Off Leash Area

Bin Chicken Park is the local nickname for the off-leash section of EE Gunn Reserve accessed from Tyrone Street, Ormond. The eastern ovals closest to the railway line are the off-leash zone, giving dogs a genuinely large grassy space to run, while the western oval nearer Malane Street and Beatty Crescent stays on-leash.

The rules. Keep dogs under effective voice or hand control at all times and within 50 metres of you. Leash up if any club or school sport is using the ovals, and stay at least 20 metres clear of the playground. Dogs need a current registration tag. The area is not fully fenced, so it suits dogs with reliable recall rather than nervous runners.

What's there. A large open oval for fetch and off-leash running, dog waste bins, some shaded seating, picnic tables, electric barbecues and a separate playground for families. Entrance and parking are wheelchair accessible.

Getting there. Tyrone Street, just off Grange Road, has street parking. Ormond Station on the Frankston line is within walking distance, and buses run along North Road and Grange Road.

Nearby with the dogs. The Ormond Provedore Cafe is a short drive on North Road for a coffee after the walk, and EE Gunn Reserve's eastern oval nearby offers an evening-hours alternative.

Weekday mornings and Monday nights tend to be quietest; Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons draw the biggest crowds, so an early visit on the weekend beats the midday rush.
