Bill Spilstead Complex for Canine Affairs

The Bill Spilstead Complex for Canine Affairs on Luddenham Road is the headquarters of Dogs NSW, the Royal NSW Canine Council, an 80-hectare showground built for conformation shows, obedience and agility trials, lure coursing and herding tests. Access and rules

The grounds host booked shows, trials and club training sessions, and general public access outside those events is limited. Dogs must stay on lead except when taking part in a sanctioned activity or working in an approved training area, and cleaning up is mandatory with bins across the site. If you are coming for a specific show or trial, arrive early: the grounds are large and parking fills fast once a weekend championship gets under way.

Worth knowing

Facilities are what you would expect of a purpose-built showground: multiple rings, an amenities building with toilets and showers, first aid points, and a canteen that opens for bigger weekend shows. It is also the place to see rare-breed dogs and working-dog sports you will not find at a suburban park, and spectators are generally welcome at public-facing events. Commercial use of the grounds, including paid training, requires a separate booking agreement with Dogs NSW.

Pepsi: come for a weekend show even if you are not competing. It is the fastest way to meet breeders and see how the serious dog sports actually work.

Getting there and parking

The complex sits off the M4 at the Mamre Road exit in Orchard Hills, on Sydney's rural western edge. Public transport is effectively nonexistent out here, so driving is the only realistic option, with ample on-site parking for cars and trailers during events. Penrith and St Marys are the nearest stations if you are combining with a lift.

When to go

Weekends carry the big Dogs NSW championship shows and trials, so expect a full car park and a working atmosphere. Weekdays are quieter, mostly private club training, and event access requirements vary, so confirm details on the Dogs NSW site before any visit.
