The lead. A fully fenced, floodlit, off-leash dog park inside the new Gipps Street Recreation Precinct in Claremont Meadows, opened in late 2024 as part of Penrith Council's 32-hectare redevelopment of a former waste site. The draw is separate fenced zones for small and large dogs, so nervous or small dogs get their own space away from the big-dog scrum.

The rules. Dogs run off-leash only inside the fenced park areas, not the wider precinct. Keep voice control at all times, use the correct small-dog or large-dog zone, clean up after your dog with the bag dispensers provided, and do not leave dogs unattended. Entry is through a double-gated safety airlock, so let one gate close before opening the next.

What's there. Double-gated entry, floodlighting for evening visits, shaded picnic tables, park benches, and dog-friendly drinking fountains. The wider precinct adds public toilets, a canteen, a skate park and playgrounds, and more than 500 car parking spaces including accessible bays.

Getting there. The precinct sits on Gipps Street, Claremont Meadows NSW 2747, close to the M4 Western Motorway. Parking is free and plentiful on-site, so this isn't a park where you circle for a spot. Buses serve the Claremont Meadows area from Penrith Station; check Transport for NSW for current routes if you're relying on transit.

Nearby with the dogs. Direct dog-friendly cafes right at the precinct are thin on the ground for now. Penrith, Kingswood and Caddens Corner are a five to ten minute drive and have outdoor dining options that welcome dogs. For an overnight stay, ring ahead to pet-friendly options such as Mercure Penrith or Quest Penrith to confirm current pet policies and fees.

When to go. Weekends and late afternoons on weekdays draw the biggest crowds, since this is still a popular new park for locals. Mid-morning or early afternoon on a weekday is calmer and better if your dog is easily overwhelmed. Shade is still filling in as the landscaping matures, so bring water and avoid the height of a hot day.
