Davies Reserve Dog Off Leash Area on Talbot Avenue, Oakleigh South, is a City of Monash reserve with a substantial off-leash zone opened around 2023 alongside its sporting grounds and playground.

The rules. Dogs need effective voice or hand control at all times, even off-leash, and you must carry a lead (under 1.5 metres) with you regardless. Leash up within 20 metres of any sports arena when training or matches are on, and keep dogs off the playground and at least 10 metres clear of the equipment.

What's there. A well-equipped playground with swings, a slide, a climbing fort and a digger, plus a rope hammock and balance posts. Seating is limited, so don't expect much shade infrastructure.

Getting there. Street parking is available on Talbot Avenue and surrounding streets, near the corner of Talbot Avenue and Coombs Avenue. Huntingdale Station is the closest train stop, followed by a short bus ride, with additional bus stops along Huntingdale Road and Warrigal Road.

Nearby with the dogs. La Jolla Cafe on Milgate Street is close by, and Oakleigh Village's Eaton Mall has a wider run of cafes with outdoor seating a short drive away, though confirm pet policy before you sit down.

Sports training runs through here regularly, so if there's an arena in use, leash up early rather than testing the 20 metre buffer.

When to go. Wednesday and Friday evenings are the busiest with local sport. Sunday afternoons, Monday evenings and weekday mornings are the quiet stretches, and a good pick if your dog is anxious around crowds.
