F. E Hunt Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is a spacious, low-key neighbourhood park on Waimarie Drive in Oakleigh East, managed by the City of Monash. It has open green space, paved walking paths, mature trees and a small central pond, and it borders the Gardiners Creek Trail, so it works well for a longer walk as well as a straightforward off-leash run.
The rules. Dogs must be under effective voice or hand control at all times while off-leash. You need to carry a leash under 1.5 metres and be ready to use it immediately. Dogs must go back on-leash within 20 metres of the children's playground or during any formal sporting event, and must not harass, threaten or attack other people or dogs. Picking up after your dog is mandatory and bags need to be carried in.
What's there. Open parkland for running and fetch, paved paths, a playground with swings and slides, park benches, and a scenic pond. The park is unfenced, so it relies on good recall rather than a boundary.
Getting there. Free street parking is available along Waimarie Drive and the surrounding residential streets. The reserve sits right next to the Gardiners Creek Trail for walkers and cyclists. It is a moderate walk from Huntingdale station, or reachable by local bus routes along North Road.
Nearby with the dogs. Eaton Mall in Oakleigh has a good run of cafes with outdoor footpath seating suitable for dogs, a short drive away. Pet-friendly motels can be found further along the Princes Highway if you need accommodation nearby.

Weekdays before 9am and after 5pm, plus weekend late mornings, are the busiest times. Mid-morning on weekdays, roughly 10am to 2pm, is quieter. It is a large reserve, so even at busy times there is usually room to move away from the main entrance.
