Oxford Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Oxford Reserve is a landscaped, mostly open off-leash area at 19 Oxford Street, Nunawading, managed by Manningham Council. It is a linear reserve of roughly 6,350 square metres that runs alongside the Eastern Freeway open space, so it suits a quick off-leash run with the option to walk on into the wider parkland network.

The rules. Dogs may be off-leash in the designated area but must stay under effective control, and you must carry a lead at all times. Manningham requires dogs on-leash within 5 metres of playgrounds, barbecues, exercise equipment, and any concrete, asphalt or gravel path. Pick up after your dog and take rubbish with you.

What's there. The reserve is open grassed space rather than a fenced enclosure, with a linear rain garden feature and a basketball court on site. Shared trails link through to Koonung Creek Linear Park and Mullum Mullum Park for a longer outing. Some drinking water is available, but bring your own to be safe.

Getting there. Access is off Oxford Street with local street parking. Nunawading Station on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines is about a 20 to 30 minute walk, or a short drive.

Nearby with the dogs. Cafes along Whitehorse Road and near Nunawading Station commonly have outdoor seating where well-behaved dogs are welcome, so it is easy to pair the run with a coffee stop.

When to go. Weekday mid-mornings around 10am to 1pm are the calmest. Weekend mornings and the after-work window from about 4:30 to 6pm are busiest. Good for dogs that enjoy space and a longer walk on into the connected trails.
