Birkley Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Birkley Reserve is a small pocket of grass on Birkley Court in Noble Park North, dominated by one large Monterey Cypress and designated by Greater Dandenong Council as an off-leash area. It suits a quick local loop rather than a destination visit.

The dog setup

Keep your dog under effective voice or hand-signal control and within 50 metres of you at all times. Pick up and bin waste, dogs must not chase people or other animals, and registration tags are required. The reserve is bordered by residential fences on three sides but is not a fully enclosed, double-gated space, so treat it as unfenced for recall purposes.

Max: Three fences and an open fourth side is not a fenced park. If your recall is still a work in progress, start at Lightwood Road instead.

Worth knowing

There is one park seat and not much else: no water tap and no rubbish bin on site, so bring your own water bowl and carry waste out with you. The reserve is quiet through most weekday mornings and busier after work and on weekend mornings. It works best as a short, familiar stop with a dog that already knows its recall, and is less suited to a first outing with a boisterous or unsure dog.

Getting there and parking

Park on Birkley Court, a quiet residential street. The nearest bus routes run along Gladstone Road, with Noble Park station a short walk beyond.

Close by with the dogs

The Barry J Powell Reserve off-leash area on Halton Road is minutes away with a shelter, parking and a bigger patch, and the Lightwood Road fenced dog park gives you a fully enclosed option. For coffee after, Little Mavros in Mulgrave keeps a quiet outdoor dining section that suits dogs.
