Carrington Park Fenced Dog Park

Carrington Park's dog exercise area is a fully fenced, double-gated off-leash space on the corner of Weld Street and Carrington Street in Nedlands, kept deliberately separate from the park's children's playground. It is a neighbourhood park rather than a destination reserve, which makes it useful for recall practice and short sessions without driving across Perth.

Leash status

The fenced enclosure is a City of Nedlands dog exercise area, so dogs run free inside it, but the council still expects effective voice or visual control and a leash carried at all times. Waste bags and bins are provided and pickup is expected straight away. Dogs are prohibited from the playground apparatus area and the car parks, so the lead goes back on the moment you step out of the fenced zone.

Water and terrain

The enclosure is grassed with mature trees for shade and benches for owners. The double-gate entry gives you a buffer to unclip safely before your dog reaches the open space. Water is sometimes available on-site but not guaranteed, so bring a bowl and your own supply.

Getting there and parking

The park sits at the corner of Weld Street and Carrington Street, Nedlands, with paved parking on Weld Street. Several Transperth bus routes run along nearby Stirling Highway if you are coming without a car.

When to go

Weekday mornings and evenings are the quiet window if your dog is shy. Weekend mornings, especially Sunday, bring the biggest crowd of regulars and high off-leash energy, which is good for social dogs and worth avoiding for wary ones. Check the gate is fully latched behind you before unclipping, since the double-gate system only works as a buffer if both gates are never open at once.
