El Cabro Coffee

El Cabro Coffee is a compact, independent coffee and bagel bar on Davies Road in Claremont, a short stroll from the train station and the main strip. It is a fast, friendly stop rather than a sit-down cafe, and it is popular with locals walking their dogs around nearby Lake Claremont.

The dog setup

Dogs sit outside with you at the footpath and outdoor seating, on lead by your table; the small interior is not the dog zone, so plan for an outdoor spot. Water bowls are usually put out on the footpath, but a collapsible bowl is worth packing when the cafe is busy. Hours are early: 5:30am from Monday to Friday, 6am Saturday and 7am Sunday, closing early afternoon, so it suits the dawn-patrol dog crowd rather than an afternoon stop.

The bagels

Bagels are the reason people come back: the blueberry bagel and continental bagel get regular nods, there are gluten-free options, and the espresso is strong and quick. Reviews consistently single out the baristas and the pace of service, which matters when you are holding a lead and a coffee. On-street parking along Davies Road and the surrounding streets fills during the morning rush, so the walk from Claremont Station is often the easier option.

Pairing it with a walk

Lake Claremont is the obvious loop, with expanded designated off-lead dog exercise zones on its eastern side; elsewhere around the reserve dogs stay on lead, and the Town of Claremont enforces effective control around the conservation areas. The Lake Claremont Dog Agility Area adds something extra for the run. Afterward, the Teebox Cafe beside the old golf course is the other dog-friendly coffee stop in the suburb.
