That makes it the straightforward choice for locals who want to give the dog a proper run without driving out of town, with the river running along one side of the grass.

The off-leash run

The park is open grass with a few scattered trees, which gives dogs room to sprint and sniff in roughly equal measure. Because the council spells out the boundary by street number rather than by fence line, the practical habit is to keep the game between numbers 73 and 89 and reclip the lead the moment you step off that stretch. Standard lead rules apply everywhere else in the shire, so this block is one of the few places in Murwillumbah where a dog can run free under voice control.
