Rambo Dog Park

Rambo Dog Park on Neptune Street is Maryborough's main fenced off-leash facility: about two hectares of fully enclosed grassland with separate runs for big and small dogs, open around the clock. The park is named for Rambo, a much-loved Queensland Police dog, and it has become the default meeting spot for the city's dog owners. If you are passing through town on the Bruce Highway with a dog that needs to burn energy, this is the place to stop.

The dog setup

The double-gated entry is the safety feature that matters: leash up to pass through, then unclip inside the enclosure. Dogs must stay under effective voice control even inside the fence, and any dog showing aggression should be leashed and removed straight away. Use the section that matches your dog's size, and pick up waste using the bins and bag dispensers on site.

Facilities are better than most regional dog parks manage. There is agility and obstacle equipment for active dogs, water stations in both the large and small dog enclosures, bench seating for owners, and mature trees casting real shade, though plenty of the ground sits in full sun, so summer mornings are kinder than middays. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.

Max: Read the room before you unclip at the gate, and pick the right size run. A calm first lap saves a lot of sorting out later.

Getting there and parking

The park sits at 207 Neptune Street, near the Boys Avenue intersection and roughly 500 metres from Maryborough Hospital, beside the athletics track and netball complex. Free on-site and street parking is generally easy, though Neptune Street spots can fill on weekend mornings. It is a few minutes' drive from the Maryborough CBD and about half an hour south of Hervey Bay.

When to go

The regulars keep two busy windows: early morning from about 6am to 8am, and late afternoon from 4pm to 6pm, plus weekend mornings. Midday on a weekday is usually quiet enough that you may have a run to yourself, which suits anxious dogs still learning park manners.

The Maryborough Off Leash Dog park on Cheapside Street is a second fenced option if you want a quieter backup.
