The Glebe

The Glebe is a broad, open community parkland on Fulford Terrace that doubles as Littlehampton's everyday off-leash ground under Mount Barker District Council. Its drawcard is space: a wide green expanse ringed by perimeter walking paths, where dogs with good recall can really stretch out rather than circle a fenced paddock.

The dog setup

This is an unfenced off-leash park, so the lead comes off only for dogs that return promptly on command and leave other park users alone. Under the council's animal management plan, effective control is the rule, and there are firm on-leash zones to respect: clip the lead on near the fenced children's playground, and keep it on right across the car parks.

Around the edges you get perimeter walking paths, a shelter pavilion, picnic tables and public toilets, which makes it as useful for a slow circuit as for a run. Shade is limited in the centre of the open ground, so hot days call for the tree line and a shorter stay.

Worth knowing

Max: the playground is fenced for children, not for dogs, and the on-leash buffer around it is enforced. Clip on well before you reach that zone or the car park, not as you arrive.

Being unfenced is the whole trade-off here: room and freedom in exchange for reliability. If your dog is still working on recall, the district's fenced parks are the better fit until it sticks.

Getting there and parking

The park sits on Fulford Terrace, Littlehampton, reached easily off the Old Princes Highway, with parking along the road. Bus stops on the main road serve the town, though most visitors drive, and the park is open around the clock.

While you're out there

When you want a fully secured run instead, Barka Park in Mount Barker is the district's purpose-built fenced dog park with separate small and large dog areas, and Woofside Fenced Dog Park at Nairne adds another secure option east of town.
