Mountview Park Fenced Dog Park sits on the corner of Bamford Lane and Mill Drive in Kirwan, and it is one of two separate off-leash parks in the suburb, this one built inside a larger community park with a playground and picnic tables alongside it.

The rules. Dogs must be leashed in the car park and general park grounds, and only off-leash once inside the fenced areas. Handlers can bring a maximum of two dogs each and must stay in the park supervising them the whole time. Clean up immediately using the bins provided, and remove any dog that turns aggressive or is in heat straight away.

What's there. The park is split into two fully fenced sections, a main general off-leash area and a separate smaller enclosure for small dogs. There's water available for dogs, shaded seating and picnic tables for owners, plus public barbecues and a playground nearby, which makes it an easy stop if the family is along too.

Getting there. The address is the corner of Bamford Lane and Mill Drive, Kirwan, with on-site parking and local Townsville bus routes running along Bamford Lane.

the small-dog enclosure is worth using even for a confident dog on a first visit, it lets you gauge the crowd before committing to the main yard.

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quietest times to visit. Weekends and the sunset stretch get busy, so aim outside those windows if your dog is easily overwhelmed, and bring water regardless of season since there's no natural shade beyond the seating area.
