Kev Hooper Park Dog Park

The Dog Park at Kev Hooper Park is a fully fenced off-leash enclosure inside Kev Hooper Memorial Park in Inala, reached off Hyacinth Street and open around the clock. The wider reserve runs down to Oxley Creek, so a secure, grassy yard with bench seating and dog water sits inside a much bigger patch of creekside green space a few minutes from the Inala Civic Centre.

The dog setup

The enclosure is securely fenced with a double-gate entry, so dogs can be unclipped inside without a gap at the gate. It is a single grassy yard rather than split size zones, shaded by mature trees, with bench seating for owners, dog drinking water and rubbish bins. Shade thins out in the middle of the day, and the tap serves dogs rather than filling bowls fast, so bring your own bowl and extra water through summer.

Worth knowing

Under Brisbane City Council rules, off-lead starts only once you are inside the fence, with effective voice control expected the whole time. Carry a leash, clean up immediately, and leash and remove any dog that turns aggressive. The creekside part of the reserve carries Bushcare revegetation planting, and those beds plus the water's edge are not part of the off-leash zone, so stay inside the fence rather than wandering down to the creek.

Pepsi: the double gate is the quiet win here. You can work the entry without doing the nervous leash-to-collar swap in front of an audience.

Getting there and parking

Search Kev Hooper Memorial Park in your maps app rather than the dog park itself, because that pins more reliably. The entrance is near Hyacinth Street with parking near the gate, including an accessible bay, and Inala bus station with connections toward Richlands is within walking distance. Weekday mornings between about 6:30 and 8:30 and late afternoons from 4 to 6 are the social peak; mid-morning on a weekday is the calm window.

Close by with the dogs

Inala has several dog parks to rotate through, including the separate Inala Dog Park, and the C.J. Greenfield Park Dog Park at Richlands is a few minutes east. For a leashed bushland walk, the Pooh Corner Bushland Reserve at Wacol works well, with a stop at Simple Bliss Coffee at Forest Lake on the way back.
