Heathcote Dog Off-Leash Park

Heathcote Dog Off-Leash Park sits on the northern boundary of Heathcote Oval on Wilson Parade, a fully fenced run opened in 2023 that gives Sutherland Shire dogs a secure, purpose-built space just off the Princes Highway.

The dog setup

Dogs must stay on-leash entering, leaving and anywhere in the wider oval reserve; off-leash only applies inside the fenced perimeter, and owners need to keep control of their dog at all times. Poop bags and bins are supplied and clean-up is mandatory. Gates are open from 7:15am to 10:30pm daily.

Inside the fence the ground mixes grass and gravel with a concrete perimeter path for dogs that just want to walk the loop. The build includes a water bottle refill station with an integrated low-level dog bowl bubbler, covered seating with leash hooks, newly planted trees and shrubbery to sniff through, and a small concrete tunnel for dogs that like an obstacle. It is a thoughtful layout for a suburban park, and much better appointed than the old shared-oval setups elsewhere in the Shire.

Pepsi: the perimeter path is the quiet lane here. If your dog finds the busy middle too much, walk the loop and let the play come to you.

The vibe

As a newer, purpose-built park it draws a crowd. Tuesday mornings, Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons are the busiest windows, while Friday and Sunday evenings are quieter if your dog prefers fewer playmates. Weekday mornings outside the Tuesday rush will get you the fenced area closer to yourself; arrive early on weekends if your dog is nervous around lots of others.

Getting there and parking

The park is on Wilson Parade, an easy detour off the Princes Highway, with parking near the oval. Heathcote Railway Station on the T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra line is a short walk away, so it is workable without a car too.

Close by with the dogs

The Coffeehouse Heathcote is a few minutes away on the Princes Highway for a post-run coffee, and the Helena Street fenced dog park at Kirrawee is the other secure yard nearby. Royal National Park sits on the doorstep for a longer leashed walk once the zoomies are out.
