Monterey Community Park's off-leash area is a large, open, grassed patch inside a bigger multi-use reserve that also has a skate park, playground, and sports fields, making it a genuinely family-and-dog spot rather than a specialist dog park.
The rules. Off-leash is permitted in the designated area. Dogs are not allowed in the playground, and must be leashed within 10 metres of it. Owners need to keep dogs under effective voice or hand control at all times and clean up promptly using the bins provided.
What's there. Public toilets and picnic tables in the wider reserve, an undercover shelter, and wheelchair-accessible entry. On-site parking is available off Lehmann Crescent. There's no dedicated dog fencing here, so it suits dogs with reliable recall around an open, shared space.
Getting there. Access via Lehmann Crescent, Frankston North, near Monterey Secondary College. Buses run nearby, but on-site parking is the easier option if you're bringing a dog.
Nearby with the dogs. One Pear Tree and Two Boys One Beagle and A Coffee Shop in Frankston both have dog-friendly outdoor seating within a short drive. Keast Park beach in Seaford is a nearby alternative if you want an off-leash beach run after the park.

When to go. Weekdays, early morning or mid-afternoon, are the quietest times. Weekends and weekday mornings get busier. It's an open, largely unshaded park, so bring water and watch for heat on summer visits.
