Spring Road Reserve Off-leash Dog Park

Spring Road Reserve Off-leash Dog Park sits on a 38-hectare former landfill site at 241 Spring Road in Dingley Village that the City of Kingston has rebuilt as open parkland, and it covers both ends of the dog-park spectrum in one visit: a fully fenced main run with a double-gate entry, and a big semi-fenced open area beyond it with native planting and wetlands. It is open around the clock, which is rare at this scale.

The dog setup

Inside the fenced run you get secure fencing, a double-gate entry, a water tap with a bowl, waste-bag dispensers, bins, seating and mature trees for shade, with a gravel-and-grass loop to walk while the dogs work. The broader open area gives dogs with solid recall far more room, but the leash comes back on for the surrounding parkland, car park and walking paths. The wetlands are the hard line: they are a conservation zone for rare bird and frog species, dogs must stay well clear of the edges, and that rule is not negotiable. Carry bags regardless of which zone you are in.

Max: the wetlands are a no-go for a reason. Fenced run for zoomies, lead back on the second we step out, and no recall tests near the birds.

The vibe

This is a practical, well-maintained park that locals treat as a proper exercise destination rather than a quick lap. It fills up Sunday evenings and Monday mornings, so weekday mornings or late afternoons give the most space. The unfenced stretch suits confident runners, while the enclosure means reactive dogs, puppies and escape artists still get a secure outing. Paved and unpaved paths outside the off-leash area handle the on-lead part of the walk.

Getting there

The reserve is on Spring Road near the Westall Road end of Dingley Village, with on-site parking that can fill during busy periods. Buses serve Centre Dandenong Road and Spring Road, so check the PTV Journey Planner for the nearest stop.

Pair it with

Doggy Play Park in the same village is the other dedicated dog spot if this one is crowded, and Iluka Reserve's fenced run sits closer to the beach end of Kingston.
