Off leash Dog Park,Derrimut

This fenced off-leash area inside Balmoral Park on Windsor Boulevard is Derrimut's go-to for a secure run, open 24/7 in a quiet, modern pocket of the suburb.

The rules. Inside the fenced enclosure dogs can run off-leash, but everywhere else in Balmoral Park they need to be on a lead. Brimbank Council's buffer rules apply too: dogs must be leashed within 30 metres of children's play equipment and within 5 metres of walking or bike paths. Owners stay responsible for their dog at all times, even inside the off-leash zone, and waste pick-up is required, with bins provided.

What's there. Two partitioned grassed sections give you a choice of space, each with a few benches to sit on while the dogs run. Concrete footpaths border parts of the park for an easy on-lead lap before or after off-leash time, and parking is generally easy to find near the entrance on Windsor Boulevard.

Getting there. Reach it by car via Windsor Boulevard, off Mount Derrimut Road. It's mostly a drive-in park, wheelchair accessible, with dedicated accessible parking near the gate. Nearby bus stops exist on the surrounding roads but most visitors arrive by car.

Pepsi: two separate sections means a shy dog can start in the quieter one before working up to the busier side.

When to go. Sunday mornings and evenings, plus Friday mornings, are the busiest windows; Wednesday evenings also get a rush. Thursday nights and Saturday evenings are quieter if you'd rather have the grass to yourselves. As with any off-leash area, keep an eye on the fence line and confirm current rules with Brimbank City Council if it's your first visit.
