Belmont Park Dog Off Leash Area

Belmont Park is a large multi-use reserve on Belmont Road East in Croydon South, built around a wide sports oval that doubles as the off-leash area when no games are on. It is a good pick for a dog that wants a proper open run rather than a fenced pocket park, with the playgrounds, shelters and paths of a full community reserve around the edges.

The dog setup

The central oval is off-leash under effective voice control, but only when organised sport, club training or school events are not using it. When cricket, soccer or a session is active, leash up and use the perimeter paths instead. The children's playground, BBQ shelters and walking paths around the edge are on-lead zones at all times, greyhounds stay leashed everywhere under the Domestic Animals Act, and bins are on site for waste.

Facilities are better than most off-leash reserves: drinking fountains with dog-friendly bowls or taps, shaded picnic tables and benches, public toilets and a BBQ shelter. That makes it workable for a longer family stop rather than a quick run. The oval is largely unshaded, so on summer afternoons bring water and time it for the cooler ends of the day.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is on Belmont Road East, with an on-site car park accessible from Belmont Road East or Olympus Drive; coming from further out you would usually drive in via Canterbury Road. The closest train stations are Croydon and Bayswater on the Lilydale line, both a short rideshare away, and bus routes 664 and 670 run nearby.

Worth knowing

Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons are the busiest slots because they line up with sport. Sunday mornings, Tuesday afternoons and the middle of the week are generally quieter, which suits dogs that want a calmer wide-open run. When the oval is occupied, the surrounding paths still give you a solid leashed circuit.
