Brentwood Park is an unfenced open-grass reserve in Croydon with an elevated area for running and a woodland edge, sitting next to the Brentwood Park Kindergarten. It is a straightforward local off-leash spot rather than a destination park.

The rules. Dogs can be off-leash in the designated grassy areas under effective voice control. Maroondah City Council requires dogs on-leash on surrounding paths and within 15 metres of playgrounds, barbecues and picnic areas. Pick up after your dog; bins are provided.

What's there. Open grass with an elevated run, a lower depression with soccer goals and a woodland section. There is a water tap with a bowl in the north-west corner and near the playground, plus seating, picnic tables, walking paths, bins and on-site parking.

Getting there. The reserve is around 25 Mandowie Crescent, Croydon, reached via residential streets with on-site parking. Croydon Station on the Lilydale line is the nearest train, though it is a walk or short bus to Mandowie Crescent.

Watch-outs. It is unfenced and the adjacent kindergarten is fenced off, so keep recall reliable. The lower depression with the soccer goals gets muddy after rain, so bring a towel.

When to go. Weekday mid-morning or early afternoon is quietest. Early mornings, late afternoons and weekend mornings are busier, and weekend parking can get tight. Good for a quiet neighbourhood run when the ground is dry.
