Warrandyte Park

The lead. Warrandyte Park is Craigie's everyday off-leash oval, a big stretch of grass on Warrandyte Drive with a fenced playground at one end and a bush track out the other, heading towards Craigie Leisure Centre. It is the local dog-walking loop rather than a destination, which is exactly the point on a weeknight.

The rules. Dogs are free to run off-leash across the oval and grounds, except when signage says otherwise during organised sport. Keep dogs on-lead in the car park and on the residential streets around the park. The fenced playground is for kids, so steer dogs clear of it even off-leash, and carry your own poo bags as a backup to the dispensers.

What's there. A large open oval doubles as a soccer pitch on weekends, loop paths for an easy walk, a fenced playground with soft-fall surfacing, and toilet facilities. A bush track with stairs connects through to Craigie Leisure Centre if you want to extend the walk.

Getting there. Free street parking runs along Warrandyte Drive, reached off Whitfords Avenue or Marmion Avenue. Transperth buses stop nearby on Warwick Road and Eddystone Avenue.

Nearby with the dogs. Lot One Kitchen in Hillarys, about ten minutes away, has outdoor seating and water bowls for dogs after a walk. Craigie's other off-leash spot, Whitfords North Dog Exercise Area, is a short drive away if you want a fenced option instead.

When to go. Weekday evenings are the social sweet spot, with plenty of regulars and dogs about. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are quietest. If your dog is nervous around kids or soccer balls, skip Saturday mornings entirely during the season.
