Warrandyte Park

Warrandyte Park is Craigie's everyday off-leash oval, a large stretch of grass on Warrandyte Drive in Perth's northern suburbs, open around the clock. A fenced playground sits at one end and a bush track heads out the other towards Craigie Leisure Centre, making it the local dog-walking loop rather than a destination, which is exactly the point on a weeknight.

The dog setup

Dogs can run off-leash across the oval and grassed grounds under City of Joondalup rules, as long as they are under effective voice or visual control and you stay close with a leash in hand. The exception is organised sport: when the oval is booked for soccer training or fixtures, signage applies and the lead goes on. Keep dogs on-lead in the car park and surrounding streets, and steer clear of the fenced playground entirely.

The grounds are level and well kept, with loop paths for an easy circuit, toilets on site, and bag dispensers, though carrying a spare poo bag is smart. A bush track with stairs links through to Craigie Leisure Centre if you want to stretch the walk beyond a lap of the oval.

The vibe

Weekday evenings bring the regulars, with a friendly crop of local dogs doing their laps. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quiet windows. The one thing to watch in season is junior soccer: check the oval before letting anyone off-leash on a Saturday morning, because a loose dog near a match goes down badly with everyone.

Getting there and parking

The park sits on Warrandyte Drive, reached off Whitfords Avenue or Marmion Avenue, with free street parking along the perimeter. Transperth buses stop nearby on Warwick Road and Eddystone Avenue. The ground is flat and easy going for older dogs or anyone recovering from an injury.

For a different layout, Whitfords North Dog Exercise Area is Craigie's other off-leash spot, and Hillarys Dog Beach is a short drive for a sand and swim session. Post-walk coffee works at Grounded Cafe in Kallaroo.
