Caulfield Racecourse Reserve Off-Leash Dog Park

The off-leash dog park at Caulfield Racecourse Reserve sits in the north-west corner of the big grassed infield, now known as Caulfield Commons, in Caulfield East. It is a local lawn run rather than a destination park, inside one of Melbourne's larger open spaces.

The dog setup

Only this marked fenced section is off-leash; everywhere else in the reserve stays on-lead. Water taps with bowls and waste bag dispensers serve the area, and recent upgrades added shelters and hydration infrastructure. The reserve around it carries playgrounds, public toilets, barbecues and picnic tables near the central car park.

Two things to check before you rely on the fence: parts of the enclosure have gaps near access points and infrastructure, so keep recall sharp, and the reserve closes entirely to the public on race days and major event days, which can be full or partial days. The Caulfield Commons schedule online lists closures.

Worth knowing

Standard hours run 6:30am to 8pm through daylight saving months and 7am to 5:30pm from April to September. Morning sessions draw the regulars; Tuesday and Wednesday evenings are the quiet window. Pedestrian tunnels from Kambrook Road open from around 9:45am depending on the event schedule.

Getting there and parking

Access is via Booran Road, with an internal car park close to the dog-walking zones. Caulfield Station is within walking distance, and trams on Dandenong Road, routes 3 and 3a, run right past the reserve.

Close by with the dogs

If the racecourse is closed for racing, Pawfield Park is the fallback fenced option in the same suburb, or head for the Caulfield Park off-leash area. Xpose Cafe in Caulfield covers the coffee stop.
