What visitors mention
Caulfield Racecourse Reserve Off-Leash Dog Park is the designated off-leash area in the north-west corner of Caulfield Racecourse Reserve, a big grassed space with a fenced section for letting dogs run without a lead. It's a straightforward local option rather than a destination park, best for a lawn run and a quick loop rather than a long visit.
The rules. Only the marked north-west corner is off-leash, the rest of the reserve stays on-leash. Dogs must be under voice control and leashed straight away if acting aggressively or causing a nuisance. Stay leashed near the playground, car parks and the lake where signed. The area can close on race days and for major events, so check local signage or the Caulfield Commons site before visiting.
What's there. A fenced section, a water tap with bowl, and waste bag dispensers, plus a playground, public toilets and barbecues near the car park elsewhere in the reserve. Fencing may not hold determined escape artists, so keep collars and recall reliable.
Getting there. Access is via Booran Road, with on-site parking near the dog park entrance. Caulfield Station is within walking distance and trams on Dandenong Road (routes 3/3a) run close by. Pedestrian tunnels from Kambrook Road are open from around 9:45am depending on the event schedule.
When to go. Weekend and weekday mornings are the busiest times; weekday evenings, especially Tuesday or Wednesday, tend to be quiet. Confirm race day closures before you go, since the reserve hosts regular events. Good for a quick, low-key lawn run rather than a big social outing.
