Coolong Reserve is a fully fenced, 24-hour off-leash dog park on Coolong Street in Castle Hill, and the fencing is the reason to choose it: one large grassed enclosure with secure double gates, so you can let a bolter run without watching the road.

The rules. Dogs are off-leash inside the fenced area and on-leash everywhere else in the surrounding reserve. Getting there. The park sits off Windermere Road near Showground Road, with free unmetered street parking along Coolong Street that is usually easy to find. From Castle Hill Metro it is a bus-plus-walk, so most people drive.

When to go. Sunday mornings and Tuesday evenings are busiest; Thursday and Friday nights are calmer. The grass turns muddy after rain, so bring a towel, and bring your own bowl on hot days even with the water station running.
