Coolong Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Coolong Reserve is a fully fenced, 24-hour off-leash dog park on Coolong Street in Castle Hill, and the fencing is the main draw: one large grassed enclosure with secure gates, so you can let a bolter run without watching the road. Hills Shire Council lists it as a dedicated off-leash space beside the sports fields and playground.

The dog setup

The enclosure is a single space with no separate small-dog section, so it suits dogs that play happily across sizes; read the room before you unclip and supervise mismatched play from the benches. There is a water station, mature shade trees, and basic agility pieces such as ramps and jumps for a bit of training. Bins and bags sit near the entrance, but pack spares in case they run out.

Off-leash status applies inside the fenced enclosure only; across the rest of the reserve, including the playground margins and sports fields, your dog stays on lead under Hills Shire Council rules. Carry bags even when the dispenser is stocked, and give wildlife a wide berth.

Worth knowing

Sunday mornings and Tuesday evenings are the busy windows; Thursday and Friday nights are calmer. Midday weekdays suit small or shy dogs best. The grass turns muddy after rain, so a towel in the car earns its place.

Max: if the run is packed with bouncy big dogs and yours is timid, come back at a quieter hour rather than pushing through it.

Getting there and parking

The park sits off Windermere Road near Showground Road, with free unmetered street parking along Coolong Street that is usually easy to find. From Castle Hill Metro it is a bus-plus-walk trip, so most people drive.

Close by with the dogs

The broader reserve adds a children's playground, learn-to-ride bike track and BBQs, making it an easy family stop with toilets across the sports precinct. For coffee with the dog afterwards, Beanmeister Cafe keeps outdoor seating for dogs, and Castle Hill Tavern welcomes dogs in its beer garden for a proper feed.
