Cooper Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Cooper Reserve's off leash area is a flat stretch of suburban reserve off Green Street in Camberwell, and it doubles as the neighbourhood's regular dog meeting spot, including the local pug meetups. There is a central oval ringed by mature trees and shaded seating, with a designated off lead zone alongside the sportsground. It is not fenced, so it works best for dogs with dependable recall.

The dog setup

Expect open grass rather than an enclosure: the oval and its surrounds give plenty of room for a proper run, but the reserve borders active sports fields and the playground is inside the park too. There is a water tap with a dog bowl near the entrance, waste bins, and an accessible path into the reserve. The playground itself is fully fenced, which is worth knowing if you are bringing kids and dogs together.

The rules here

Boroondara's off lead rules apply. Dogs stay on lead until inside the designated zone, and you must carry a lead at all times even off lead. Keep at least ten metres from the playground, and be ready to leash up or move away whenever a match or training session is running on the oval, since dogs are not permitted off lead around organised sport. Two dogs per person is the limit, dogs must stay under effective voice control, and you are expected to carry bags and fill in any holes your dog digs.

The vibe

This is a low fuss local run rather than a destination park. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the calm window; after school the sports teams arrive and the reserve gets busy. Because there is no fence, the unspoken etiquette leans towards owners who actually watch their dogs, and the regular meetup crowd rewards good manners.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits in the block between Glen Iris Road and Green Street, with entry via Aminya Place. Street parking is available on the surrounding residential streets, and local buses run along Glen Iris Road if you are coming without a car.
