Brady Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Brady Reserve, listed by Merri-bek City Council as Braddy Reserve, is a long, narrow bushland strip beside Moonee Ponds Creek in Brunswick West. It is a designated off-leash area with a natural, unmanicured feel, and it is not fully fenced, so recall matters here. This is a bush-and-creek wander rather than an open oval run.

The dog setup

Dogs must be under effective voice or hand control at all times, and you must carry a leash. Keep dogs on-lead within 15 metres of any playground, and within 15 metres of the sporting ground or its fence whenever sport is on. Pick up after your dog; there are rubbish bins but no bag dispensers, so bring your own. Dog water bowls are not consistently provided either, so pack water in summer, and treat the creek as scenery rather than a drinking source. Because the reserve sits directly on the creek path, there is no enclosure between the reserve and the trail or road. Dirt walking paths thread through the bushland with scattered benches and plenty of tree cover for warmer days.

Max: ducks and birdlife use the creek, and the reserve opens straight onto the trail and road. A dog that chases is better kept leashed near the water's edge.

Worth knowing

The reserve gets busiest on weekday evenings between roughly 5pm and 7pm and on weekend mornings; mid-morning and weekday afternoons are calmer. It suits confident dogs who enjoy a natural wander, and less so a dog still learning recall. There are no toilets or playground on site, with bigger facilities at nearby reserves along the corridor.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 229 Hope Street, Brunswick West, with mostly residential street parking along Hope Street and the surrounding side streets. The 58 tram along Melville Road stops a short walk away, and the reserve is easy to reach on foot or by bike along the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail.

Fleming Park Dog Off Leash Area is over at Brunswick East, and DALY'S on Melville Road is the neighbourhood coffee stop for the walk back.
