Brady Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

The short version. Brady Reserve, listed by Merri-bek City Council as Braddy Reserve, is a long, narrow bushland strip beside Moonee Ponds Creek in Brunswick West. It is a designated off-leash area with a natural, unmanicured feel, and it is not fully fenced, so recall matters here.

The rules. Dogs must be under effective voice or hand control at all times, and you must carry a leash. Keep dogs on-leash within 15 metres of any playground and within 15 metres of the sporting ground or fence when sport is on. Pick up after your dog. It sits directly on the creek path, so there is no enclosure between the reserve and the trail or road.

What's there. Dirt walking paths run through the bushland, with scattered benches and plenty of tree cover for warmer days. There are rubbish bins, but bring your own waste bags. Dog water bowls are not consistently provided, so pack water in summer. The creek is close but is not a reliable clean drinking source.

Getting there. The address is 229 Hope Street, with mostly residential street parking. The 58 tram along Melville Road stops a short walk away, and the reserve is easy to reach along the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail on foot or by bike.

Nearby with the dogs. Cafes along Melville Road and the Hope Street end offer outdoor seating within a short walk.

Busiest on weekday evenings around 5 to 7pm and weekend mornings; mid-morning and weekday afternoons are calmer. Good for confident dogs who enjoy a natural bush-and-creek wander over an open oval.
