DALY’S

The short version. DALY'S is a busy neighbourhood cafe on Dawson Street in Brunswick West, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor and footpath tables out front. It is a coffee-and-a-sandwich stop rather than a sit-all-morning destination, but the welcome is genuine.

Where the dog goes. Dogs stay at the footpath and outdoor seating at the front, which doubles as good people-watching while you wait on a batch brew. Staff keep a water bowl out the front and are known to hand out the odd pat and treat.

What they do well. The coffee is the draw, with consistently good pours, and the sandwich menu runs to deli-style rolls that change often. It is the kind of place locals return to weekly.

Getting there. The 58 tram runs down Dawson Street, so it is easy without a car. Dawson Street is residential, so there is usually unmetered street parking out front or on the side streets.

Make a morning of it. Gilpin Park and its fenced dog park are a short walk away, so you can grab a coffee first and let the dog run afterwards. The Moonee Ponds Creek Trail is also close for a longer on-leash walk.

Best as a quick stop before or after a park run rather than a long sit, and the footpath tables are most comfortable outside the weekend rush.
