Lux Foundry

Lux Foundry is a busy brunch cafe set in a former industrial foundry on Hope Street, just off Sydney Road in Brunswick. It is a bright, spacious, rustic-industrial room, but the outdoor areas are where you and the dog will settle, and the kitchen runs from 7am on weekdays and 8am weekends through to the late afternoon.

The dog setup

The courtyard is the main dog-friendly area, with limited footpath seating out front as well. Dogs are not taken into the heritage building. Staff are welcoming in the outside area and often put out water bowls, though it is worth carrying your own on a busy day. The courtyard gets close-set when full, so it suits a sociable dog that copes with neighbouring tables rather than one that needs space.

The reputation is built on solid brunch, fresh produce and well-made coffee in an airy space. It gets very busy on weekends, so a booking helps even though you will be sitting outside with the dog. Mid-morning on a weekday is the quiet window.

Getting there and parking

It is a short walk from the 19 tram on Sydney Road, which makes it an easy public-transport trip. If you drive, street parking is on Hope Street and the surrounding residential streets, so check the signs for restrictions before leaving the dog in the car zone.

Close by with the dogs

Sydney Road is a few steps away for a leashed stroll, and there are small reserves within a 5 to 10 minute walk for a quick leg-stretch.
