Broadwood Dog Exercise Area

The Broadwood Dog Exercise Area is the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder's designated off-leash space at Rasmussen Park in Broadwood, on the eastern edge of Kalgoorlie. It is a large, open grassy field that works as a quiet, local run rather than a destination park, well suited to a straightforward exercise session without the crowds of the bigger city reserves.

The dog setup

Dogs can run off-leash inside the designated exercise zone but must stay under effective voice or physical control at all times, and they need to be leashed on arrival and departure. The off-leash allowance excludes the children's playground area, so dogs stay clear of the play equipment. Aggressive dogs must be leashed and removed immediately, and owners are strictly required to clean up and use the bins provided. Outside designated exercise areas like this one, the council requires dogs on-lead, particularly around playgrounds. Fresh water taps, doggy bags and some shaded areas are reported on site, but bring your own water and bags as backup, since supplies at unstaffed exercise areas can run out.

Max: out here the ground is big and the shade is sparse, so time your run for early morning or evening and carry water even if the taps are working.

Worth knowing

The exercise area sits in the Broadwood suburb, postcode 6430, with the park along Broadwood Street. Parking is on the street directly adjacent to the park, which makes leashing and unleashing easy at the entry point. Most visitors arrive by car, as you would expect in the Goldfields.
