South Boulder Dog Exercise Area

South Boulder Dog Exercise Area is a fenced off-leash park on Vivian Street in South Boulder, open around the clock and kept in good order by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. It is a straightforward local run-around rather than a destination park, but the size and upkeep make it the dependable choice for this part of the Goldfields.

The dog setup

Inside the fence, dogs run off-leash under effective voice control with reliable recall expected from every regular. Step back out onto Vivian Street or the surrounding footpaths and the lead goes straight back on, because the streets outside the enclosure are on-lead territory. Clean up after your dog and use the bins provided.

The park is open grassed space with some shade trees, waste bag dispensers and bins, and a water tap with a dog bowl. The water supply can be patchy, so bring a bowl and backup water, and carry spare bags in case the dispenser is empty. It is a secure perimeter rather than a double-gated airlock, so keep your dog close while you get through the entrance.

Max: check the pavement and any exposed concrete before an afternoon visit in summer. Kalgoorlie heat gets fierce and hot surfaces can burn paws fast.

The vibe

Early morning and after 4pm are the busy windows, as locals fit the park around work in the cooler parts of the day. Weekday middays are quiet enough that your dog often has the place to itself. In a town where summer afternoons are brutal, the morning session is the main event.

The park sits at 144 Vivian Street in a residential pocket of South Boulder, with on-street parking near the entrance. It is an easy walk for most of the surrounding streets rather than a drive-to destination.

Travelling through with a dog, the pet-friendly Discovery Parks - Boulder is close by. For variety, Edwards Park Fenced Dog Park in Piccadilly adds lighting and agility space, and the Arboretum in West Lamington offers bushland walking trails.
