Viridian Park Dog Park

Viridian Park Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash area on Viridian Circuit in Birtinya, with separate enclosures for large and small dogs. The fencing plus the split pens is the reason to come here: it suits nervous dogs, puppies and small breeds who need their own space away from the boisterous end of the park, and it backs onto a full recreation park so the whole family has something to do.

The rules

Dogs may be off-leash only inside the designated fenced pens under Sunshine Coast Council rules. Keep your dog on lead entering and leaving, and anywhere in the wider recreation park. Stay within voice control, supervise at all times, pick up straight away, and remove any dog showing aggression. Regulated dogs are not permitted, and registration tags need to be on the collar.

What's there

Two fenced sections split large and small dogs, with double-gated entries, covered seating and shade shelters inside the pens, and a water tap on site. The surrounding Viridian Circuit Park adds public toilets, water fountains, barbecues, picnic tables, a playground and a basketball half-court, so it doubles as a family outing spot.

Max: the small-dog side drains poorly and stays boggy after heavy rain, so give it a day or two to dry out before you bring a little one down.

Getting there and parking

It sits on Viridian Circuit just off Kawana Way, with free parking next to the park and accessible paths through it. Bus stops on Lake Kawana Boulevard and near the Sunshine Coast University Hospital are a short walk away.

Close by with the dogs

Summer House Bistro in Birtinya does dog-friendly outdoor dining for the post-park lunch, and the Point Cartwright Walkway adds a coastal lead walk on the way home. More fenced yards sit nearby at Baringa Forest Park and Nicklin Way Fenced Dog Park.

When to go

Saturday and Sunday mornings from about 8 to 11 are busiest, and weekday evenings from 4:30 to 6 draw the after-work crowd. Mid-morning on a weekday gives you the quietest run.
