Viridian Park Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash area on Viridian Circuit in Birtinya, with separate enclosures for large and small dogs. The fencing plus split pens is the reason to come here: it suits nervous dogs and small breeds who need their own space away from the boisterous end.

The rules. Dogs may be off-leash only inside the designated fenced pens. Keep your dog on-lead entering and leaving, and anywhere in the wider recreation park. You must stay in voice control, supervise at all times, pick up after your dog straight away, and remove any dog showing aggression promptly.

What's there. Two fenced sections split large and small dogs, with covered seating and benches inside the pens and natural shade trees. Water bowls are often topped up by locals, but bring your own bottle and bowl. The surrounding Viridian Circuit Park adds public toilets, water fountains, BBQs and parking.

Getting there. On Viridian Circuit just off Kawana Way, with ample free parking next to the park and accessible paths through it. Nearest bus stops are on Lake Kawana Boulevard and near the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, a short walk away.

The small-dog side drains poorly and stays boggy after heavy rain, so give it a day or two to dry out before you bring a little one down.

Nearby with the dogs. Summer House Bistro in Birtinya offers dog-friendly outdoor dining a short drive away for a post-park coffee.

When to go. Saturday and Sunday mornings from about 8 to 11 are the busiest, and weekday evenings around 4:30 to 6 draw the after-work crowd. Go mid-morning on a weekday for the quietest run.
