Pioneers Park is a manicured community park on Peel Street in Berwick, right beside Berwick Village. It is the easy, social option: large flat lawns, mature trees and well-kept paths, with a popular dog-friendly cafe set inside it. Dogs are welcome on the lead.

The rules. This is a public park, so dogs are welcome on-lead and must stay under effective control at all times, particularly near the cafe and playground at busy times. Under City of Casey policy, keep dogs clear of the children's playground. Bins and dog-waste bags are provided and cleaning up after your dog is required. If you want off-leash running, the fenced and creek-side reserves elsewhere in Berwick are the better fit; Pioneers Park is for on-lead strolls.

What's there. Flat, well-maintained paths that suit any age or fitness level, plenty of shady spots with benches, a large modern playground for kids, and public toilets. The standout is Primary @ Pioneers Park, the cafe on site, with covered outdoor seating where dogs are welcome at the tables.

Getting there. Off Peel Street, with a car park on site plus street parking nearby. It is a short walk from Berwick station on the Pakenham line.

When to go. Weekday mornings are the quietest, which suits a nervous or reactive dog. Sunny weekends from late morning are the busiest, and the car park fills fast on those days, so come early or aim for a late afternoon.
