The Dog Centre

The Dog Centre is a private, fully fenced dog park on a 100-acre working farm at 35 Yalyalup Rd, Abba River, just outside Busselton. Unlike a free council off-leash park, you book it by the hour for exclusive use, so your dog gets the paddock without the usual scrum of unknown dogs at the gate. For reactive dogs, puppies mid-training or anyone who wants a guaranteed empty field, that model changes the whole outing.

The dog setup

There are two separate fully fenced paddocks of roughly 1.5 to 2 acres each, plus a smaller puppy playground, so a boisterous adult dog and a nervous puppy are never sharing space. The fencing runs to 1.8 metres with no-dig, fully aproned barriers to stop tunnellers, and a drive-in option lets you let the dog straight out of the car inside the secure enclosure, which removes the gate-dash risk entirely.

Fresh drinking water, compostable poo bags, agility equipment, shade trees and picnic tables are provided on site. Bookings cost about $25 an hour for up to two dogs, and you need a free membership registration first, with full vaccination certificates required when you register. Access is by booking only, not walk-in, and the property opens sunrise to sunset.

Max: this is a working farm, and the sights and scents of livestock carry over the fence. The paddocks are securely fenced from the farm itself, but keep recall sharp near the boundary line anyway.

The vibe

Regulars book here for recall training and confidence building in a safe environment, and the high fences and easy booking are what they point to. Because each session is private, it also suits dogs who find public parks overwhelming. The trade-off is that there is no casual drop-in and no social side unless you bring your own second dog.

Getting there and parking

This is a rural property, so a car is the only realistic way in. It sits on Yalyalup Rd just outside Busselton town centre, with on-site parking at the gate. No public transport option is worth planning around.

Close by with the dogs

For a public off-leash option on other days, Vasse Dog Park is the nearest free fenced park. After a session, Poppy & Pip Cafe in Busselton is a dog-friendly coffee stop, and if you are making a weekend of it, Busselton Holiday Village takes dogs for an overnight stay.
