Orion Cafe

Orion Cafe sits on Brazier Road in Yanchep, on the rise above Yanchep Lagoon, and the ocean view is the whole point. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, which look straight out over the water, making it the natural finish to a walk or swim along this stretch of coast.

The dog setup

Dogs stay outside with you in the outdoor seating area, on leash beside your table. Water bowls are not a given, so pack a collapsible one, especially on a warm afternoon. The lagoon below the cafe is a no-dogs swimming area, so the cafe is for the post-walk feed rather than the water time itself; for that, head a few minutes to the off-lead stretch at Yanchep Dog Beach.

The vibe and the menu

This is a casual, family-leaning beach cafe rather than anything fancy, open long hours from 6am to 8pm daily. Regulars come for fish and chips, milkshakes and cooked breakfasts, with steak sandwiches and nasi goreng rounding out the board. There is a shaded playground alongside, which suits a family-plus-dog outing, and the trade-off is that it gets busy and the tone is relaxed rather than refined.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at 10 Brazier Road, Yanchep, with free parking on site and on the surrounding streets. Weekend breakfast is the peak; midweek is easy for an outdoor table with the dog. Fish and chips at sunset is the obvious play. If you want another coastal option with the dog, Lil' Sistas at Lindsay Beach Boulevard is a coffee-and-jaffle stop that keeps treats behind the counter for canine customers, and the fenced Eglinton Dog Park is south along Marmion Avenue.
