Monty's Place

Monty's Place is a cafe and bakery at Shop 3, 119 Glenora Street, Wynnum, near the Tingal Road corner in the bayside streets behind the Esplanade. It opens at 5am daily, which makes it a fixture for the suburb's early walkers: grab a table out the front, dog on lead beside you, and a cooked breakfast before most of Brisbane has stirred.

The dog setup

Well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area, and the staff are used to regulars rolling up with four-legged companions after a morning loop. Water bowls are not guaranteed, so bring your own. The footpath tables suit dogs that settle quietly; this is a pavement cafe rather than a courtyard, so keep an eye on the foot traffic at breakfast peak.

Worth knowing

The kitchen runs to 1pm every day. The menu leans hearty: Monty's Brekky with thick-cut hickory-smoked bacon, Dean's Benedict, a shakshouka, the Flinders Big Breakfast, and house-made corn and capsicum fritters with roasted capsicum puree. Lighter options cover breakfast wraps, bacon and egg burgers, blueberry bagels and toasties, and the bakery counter adds muffins, pies and rotating sweets like quiche Lorraine. Fresh juices and reliable coffee round it out at fair prices.

Getting there and parking

Glenora Street has free street parking out the front and in the side streets, and the cafe is an easy walk from much of central Wynnum. Cyclists and walkers coming off the foreshore reach it in a few minutes.

Close by with the dogs

The Wynnum Esplanade and foreshore paths are the obvious morning walk, on leash the whole way, with the wading pool and water views as the backdrop. For a proper run, Elanora Park fenced dog park is a few minutes away, and on warm days the Manly off leash dog beach is a short drive south.
