SCM® Studio Cafe

SCM Studio Cafe sits at Shop 6/29-31 Playford Avenue in Whyalla Playford, a compact coffee and matcha house with one of the more interesting drink lists on the Eyre Peninsula. The dog deal is simple: the front outdoor seating looks straight down the avenue, and your dog is welcome at those tables while you work through the menu.

The dog setup

Dogs are allowed in the outdoor seating area, not inside the cafe unless they are service dogs. Staff often provide water bowls, but a portable bowl is the reliable backup. Playford Avenue is the main road through the area, so pick a table set back from the kerb and keep the lead short while traffic passes. Council by-laws require dogs on lead on all footpaths and nature strips here anyway.

Worth knowing

The drinks are the headline: espresso alongside specialty matcha, including a strawberry matcha that locals queue for, plus smoothies and breakfast bowls. Plant-based eaters are looked after properly, with a broad run of vegetarian, vegan and dairy-free options, which is rarer than it should be in Whyalla. Hours are tight: Monday 8am to midday, Thursday to Sunday 8am to 1pm, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and the short windows mean a late-morning arrival can miss the kitchen. Free street parking usually sits out front or on the nearby side streets.

The Whyalla foreshore precinct and Ada Ryan Gardens are on-lead, but the beach stretch from the jetty to Dunstone Street allows off-lead time outside the council's daytime windows, and the sand towards the mangroves is a designated off-lead exercise area.
