Eyre Pantry

Eyre Pantry is the light-filled breakfast cafe on the ground floor of the Eyre Hotel at 39 Playford Avenue, Whyalla, with its own street frontage and a takeaway window. Dogs are welcome in the alfresco area, the kitchen starts at 6:30am and no bookings are taken, so it makes an easy first stop before a walk along the water.

The dog setup

Dogs join you in the dog-friendly alfresco seating, while indoor tables are for people only. The menu carries a $3 puppuccino for canine guests, and the staff are used to dogs arriving with the breakfast crowd. Bring a water bowl if your dog likes one at the table, and keep your dog settled under the chair through the morning rush.

Worth knowing

The menu is built on Eyre Peninsula produce: free-range Tumby Bay eggs, Boston Bay Berkshire bacon and Beerenberg jams run through a list that covers the Big Farmers Breakfast, a harissa shakshuka skillet, chicken and waffles and avocado sourdough. There is a juice and smoothie bar, morning cocktails, and coffee and cake from 2pm to 3pm. Hours are breakfast 6:30am to 11am and lunch noon to 2pm, every day, plus a takeaway morning roll if you are moving on quickly.

Getting there and parking

The Eyre Hotel sits on Playford Avenue in Whyalla's main dining strip. Street parking runs along Playford Avenue and the surrounding blocks, and the hotel lists a carpark among its facilities. Travelling with a caravan or staying over? Discovery Parks - Whyalla Foreshore has pet-friendly cabins a short drive from the hotel.

Close by with the dogs
