The Causeway Cafe

The Causeway Cafe holds the corner spot on the Esplanade at Victor Harbor's foreshore, open from 6:30am to 4pm every day, which makes it both the early-coffee stop and the all-day beachside kitchen. The menu reads like a holiday hit list: the Causeway Burger, fish and chips, salt and pepper squid, eggs benny for the breakfast crowd and a biscoff cheesecake that reviews single out on its own.

Dogs are reported to be welcome at the outdoor seating along the foreshore strip, per the Google listing and steady community feedback on the venue's Facebook page; the venue's own site stays silent on dogs, so treat it as the established practice it visibly is. With the beach across the road, a sandy dog at the table is the normal state of affairs here. Leash on, dog out of the walkway, water bowls provided.

Worth knowing

The causeway to Granite Island runs straight past, so the classic visit is coffee first, island walk second, and the cafe's hours cover both ends of it. Summer middays get busy with the holiday crowd and there can be a wait for the best outdoor tables, while weekday mornings run calm. Parking along the Esplanade and the foreshore car parks is easy most of the year and competitive in January.
