The Larder Kitchen

The Larder Kitchen sits on the Esplanade at 1/2-3 Esplanade, Victor Harbor, directly across from the seafront with views out to Granite Island. It is a quirky, homewares-filled room with a serious steak and produce-led menu, and the reason it works so well for dog owners is the enclosed glass atrium: a sheltered, dog-friendly space that lets you dine with the dog while the Fleurieu wind does its worst outside.

The dog setup

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the enclosed glass atrium and the alfresco area, and the atrium is dog-friendly year round, which is rare on an exposed seafront. Bring a portable water bowl to be safe, and ask for a dog-friendly table when you book, especially for dinner service. The fit-out is full of breakable homewares, so a calm, settled dog suits the room better than a restless one.

Worth knowing

The kitchen is known for steak: ribeye, porterhouse and beef short ribs, plus seafood platters, mussels and lamb shoulder, with coffee, cakes and cocktails across the day. Lunch runs from 10:30am, Tuesday to Sunday, with Tuesdays the only full closure. One planning note: dogs are not permitted on the Granite Island Causeway or the island itself, so the island walk stays a human-only detour while the dog rests or takes turns.

Getting there and parking

Free on-street parking runs along the Esplanade and surrounding streets, busiest in summer and school holidays. You can walk in from a foreshore stroll, since the seafront path is directly across the road.

Close by with the dogs

Council beach rules change with the season, with daytime leash requirements over the warmer months, so check signage before an off-lead swim. Victor Harbor Fenced Dog Park has separate areas for big and small dogs, Aras Cafe covers the morning coffee run, and Hotel Crown is another dog-friendly sit-down option in town.
