Port Elliot Fenced Dog Park

A fully fenced, community-run off-leash park off Kurramin Court, behind the Port Elliot Primary School oval and within the Waterport Heritage Reserve. The draw is a large secure lawn with a separate small-dog enclosure, so you can let a nervous or little dog run without worrying about the bigger crowd.

The rules. Stay inside the park and supervise your dog the whole time, keep the gates closed behind you, and pick up after your dog using the bags provided. You are responsible for your dog's behaviour and should leash up and leave if things get tense. Misuse or a dog attack can be reported to Alexandrina Council, which manages the reserve.

What's there. A paved community shelter with mosaic artwork gives you shade and somewhere to sit, backed up by eight wooden benches around the lawn. Dogs get agility tunnels, bridges and a small circuit to work off energy, plus a rainwater tap for a drink. Waste-bag dispensers and bins are on site, along with a dog memorial space and a few sculptures that give the place its local character.

Getting there. The park sits on Kurramin Court, Port Elliot SA 5212, reached via Leeds Street (off Tottenham Court Road) or Cameron Street (off Waterport Road). There is on-site parking. Local bus services are limited, so driving is the easiest way in with a dog.

When to go. Weekend afternoons and Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons are the social peak, so come for that if your dog loves company. Weekday mornings and Sunday, Monday or Wednesday nights are quieter. The park is inland and unaffected by tides, but it is only about 1.5 to 2km to Sandy Bay if you want to pair it with a beach walk.
