Liberty Providores Urunga

Liberty Providores runs from a boho-styled garden setting at 4241 Giinagay Way, the main street through Urunga on the NSW north coast. It opens 7am to 2pm Monday and Wednesday to Saturday, from 8am Sundays, and closes Tuesdays. The menu is short and confident: rotating sweet and savoury jaffles, pastries and fresh juices, and coffee with a reputation for being the strongest in town.

The dog setup

Dogs are warmly welcomed in the outdoor garden and pergola seating, with water bowls and treats usually on offer, and the odd puppacino if you ask. There is a resident dog who works the room as the unofficial greeter, so a sociable dog settles in faster than a shy one. Keep your dog leashed and off the furniture; the indoor cafe room stays people only.

Worth knowing

The jaffle rotation covers gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options, and the custard tart earns regular mentions. One quirk to plan for: the cafe is a disposable-cup-free zone, so a keep cup is required for takeaway. Sunday mornings bring local acoustic live music, weather permitting, which turns the garden into the town's liveliest dog-watching spot.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Giinagay Way and the side streets, and the location makes it a simple detour off the Pacific Highway for anyone passing through the Coffs Harbour area. The boardwalk and river mouth are a short walk east.

Make a day of it
