Gloves and Grind

Gloves and Grind is a community-minded coffee spot on Ruthven Street in the Toowoomba CBD, run in partnership with Semloh Support Services to create supported employment and work experience for local young people. The coffee is good, the cause is real, and visiting dogs are part of the routine.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating, where four-legged regulars show up often enough that the team has been known to serve puppuccinos. There is no dedicated water station, so bring a bowl and settle your dog beside an outdoor table. The setting is a city footpath rather than a garden courtyard, so a dog who copes with passing foot traffic will do best, and the lead stays on throughout.

Worth knowing

The menu leans towards the fitness side of the name: proper coffee, protein shakes through an Elite Supps partnership, and fresh options like acai bowls. The community program runs alongside the coffee, with giveaways such as random acts of coffee and a genuinely casual welcome. It trades weekday mornings into the early afternoon, roughly 7am to 2pm, and since hours can shift around community events, check the cafe's Instagram before a visit from out of town.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits at 625 Ruthven Street, next door to Semloh Support Services, in the main CBD strip. Street parking along Ruthven Street and the cross streets is metered and time-limited in the city centre, so mind the signs. From the cafe it is a short walk to the parklands at the eastern edge of the CBD.

Make a day of it

Queens Park is a short hop away, and the Queens Park Dog Off Leash Area gives your dog a proper run before the coffee. For something steeper, the Table Top climb at Rangeville burns off breakfast with city views from the escarpment. Toowoomba's cafe strip runs deep, so if Gloves and Grind is full, Park House Cafe near the parklands or Picnic Point Toowoomba on the range edge both make solid second stops.
