Rivulet Cafe

Rivulet Cafe is a community-run cafe on Anglesea Street in South Hobart, looking over the Hobart Rivulet at the Cascade Brewery end of the track. It operates alongside a church community space, which gives it a friendly, volunteer-warm feel you will not find in the city's trendier rooms, and its combination of outdoor seating and a secure playground makes it the easy choice for families juggling a dog and kids after a rivulet walk.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area, which spreads out beside the rivulet greenery. The indoor room is generally kept for service animals, so plan on an outside table. Staff are accommodating of well-behaved dogs and can usually provide a water bowl on request, though bringing your own removes the risk on busy mornings. Keep the lead on while the playground crowd moves through.

The vibe

Simple and community-minded rather than chef-driven: sausage rolls, cakes, light lunches, and proper barista coffee and chai. Weekday mornings are busy with parent groups drawn by the fenced playground. Doors open 8:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday only, with weekends given over to the adjoining church services, so plan your visit accordingly.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at 64 Anglesea Street, South Hobart, near the Cascade Brewery end of the rivulet track, with free and easy parking on the nearby streets and Metro bus stops close by on Cascade Road.

Make a day of it

The Hobart Rivulet Park trail runs right past the door and is the best pairing: a flat, leafy walk that runs all the way toward the city. For something steeper, the Secret Falls and Myrtle Gully Falls walk starts nearby. Over in the city, Cult Logic Coffee covers the post-walk caffeine at the other end.
