50’s Diner Hervey Bay

50's Diner is a retro, rock and roll themed diner at Shop 1, 352A Esplanade in Scarness, directly across from the Hervey Bay beachfront. It opens from 6:30am every day, which makes it a natural stop after an early walk along the sand with the dog.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables on the footpath out front, which face the Esplanade. The covered tables give some shade through the morning. Nothing indoors, so this is a fair weather stop. Staff are known to bring a water bowl out on request, so ask when you order rather than waiting.

The vibe

The 1950s theming is the point: vintage decor, retro music and a menu of classic diner fare. Expect burgers, hot dogs, loaded fries, waffles and famously thick milkshakes, with a breakfast menu through to mid morning. Portions are generous and service has a reputation for being friendly, which suits a relaxed holiday crowd.

Getting there and parking

The diner sits on the Scarness strip of the Esplanade, with free street parking along the front. It fills on weekends and through the middle of the day, and the side streets near Scarness Park usually have space when the strip is busy. Opening hours are 6:30am to 3pm, seven days.

Make a day of it

Scarness Beach sits right across the road, with a designated off lead stretch covered by the Scarness beach Dogs off leash 24/7 area, and the paved Esplanade path runs the length of the bay for a leashed stroll. Two more dog friendly stops within a short walk are Sea Breeze Cafe Hervey Bay and Jham Bar Espresso for a quicker hit.

Come early, walk the beach first, then claim an outdoor table before the strip fills. Best for a calm dog that will settle under the table while you work through the menu.
