The Old Butcher Shop Cafe

The Old Butcher Shop Cafe occupies 31A Challinor Street in Sadliers Crossing, an Ipswich riverside suburb, and trades seven days from early: 6.30am to 2pm weekdays and 7am to 1pm weekends. It is a small, community-focused cafe in an old butcher shop building, pouring its own house blend roasted locally by Ipswich Coffee Roasters, and the owners state plainly that they are dog friendly and happy to look after canine visitors.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome inside and out, which is rarer than the usual outdoor-only arrangement, with a large outdoor seating area for dogs that need more space. Keep the leash on and settle away from the footpath edge on the quiet residential corner. Bowls are not confirmed, so carry water.

The food and coffee

The menu is comfort breakfast and lunch: eggs Benedict, savoury mince, breakfast burgers and a rotating cabinet of baked goods, with a "Little Grazers" kids menu for families. Seasonal specials have included spiced chocolate chai and roasted pumpkin soup. The house blend roasted across town by Ipswich Coffee Roasters is the reason many locals come, and the cafe doubles as their retail counter for takeaway bags.

Getting there and parking

Challinor Street is a short hop from the Ipswich CBD side of the Bremer River, and street parking runs directly out front and along the adjacent residential roads. It is an easy walk from Sadliers Crossing station if you are arriving by train.
