Mungerie House

Mungerie House is a restored historic homestead at 16 Bellcast Road in Rouse Hill, and the cafe operating inside it is The Local Shed. The combination of a heritage cottage setting, garden tables and open parkland next door makes it one of the north-west's easiest coffee-and-dog-walk pairings. Doors open 7:30am Tuesday to Sunday, closing mid afternoon, with Mondays off.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome across the outdoor garden and courtyard seating that wraps the cottage, which is roomy enough that a visit never feels cramped. The indoor dining room is people only. Staff are known for greeting dogs properly, with water bowls and the occasional pat, and outdoor table service makes it easy to stay put with a dog on a lead. Bring your own bowl if you arrive at a quiet hour and none has made it out yet.

The menu

Expect creative breakfast plates, house pancakes and a solid big breakfast alongside the usual smashed avocado, then small plates, meze and burgers through lunch. There is specialty coffee, and a small wine and beer list for the afternoon crowd. Weekend waits can stretch once the playground crowd lands, so order early if you are on a schedule.

The address is 16 Bellcast Road, Rouse Hill, with free on-site parking and easy access off Windsor Road. Mungerie Park sits immediately adjacent, with a district playground, paths and wide grass where dogs are welcome on lead. For an off-leash run, Connie Lowe Reserve on O'Reilly Way is a fenced leash-free area with agility equipment and a water station.
