Breathe Easy Cafe is a busy breakfast-and-brunch spot on Anzac Avenue in Rothwell, opposite Bunnings, and it has built a genuine reputation as one of the more dog-welcoming cafes on the Redcliffe peninsula. It even picked up a Best Northside Cafe award, and dogs are part of the regular scene here, not an afterthought.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating and courtyard area, on leash, but stay out of the indoor dining and food-prep space as required by food safety rules. Staff keep dog bowls behind the counter and hand out treats on request, and you can ask for a blanket if you want your dog up beside you rather than on bare pavers. Keep paws and noses off the tables and out of the main walkway, and don't let your dog drink from the cafe's crockery.

Good to know. The bacon and egg rolls and roast pork rolls are the big draw, alongside Cleanskin Coffee Co. brews and a solid decaf. Vegan and vegetarian options are available too. Open 6:30am to 2pm weekdays and 7am to midday Saturdays, closed Sundays.

a cafe that keeps treats behind the counter is always worth a slow sit, especially with a bacon roll going around the table.

Getting there. 3/455 Anzac Avenue, Rothwell, directly opposite the Rothwell Bunnings. Free on-site parking is plentiful, so it is an easy stop by car; Rothwell train station is a 1.5-2km walk if you are on foot with the dog.

Nearby with the dogs. Kroll Gardens Fenced Dog Park is a short drive away for an off-leash run before or after breakfast.

When to go. Weekday mornings are calmer for outdoor tables with a dog in tow; Saturday's shorter hours get busy early, so aim for the door-opening rush if you want a seat.
