The Gelato & Icecream Factory

The Gelato & Icecream Factory is a family-owned dessert parlour at 2/77 Redcliffe Parade, making its gelato and ice cream on-site in a shop that sits right on the Redcliffe foreshore walking track. With panoramic water views and a rotating lineup of more than 66 house-made flavours, it is a natural pit stop mid-walk with the dog. Hours run 11:30am to 9pm Tuesday to Thursday, to 10pm Friday and Saturday, from 9am Sunday, with Mondays closed.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome outside, where the wide waterfront footpath and outdoor seating look over the bay; the indoor ordering and display area is not for dogs. The practical routine is to settle your dog at an outside table while one person orders, then take in the view together. Bring a portable water bowl, because the footpath concrete gets hot in summer and shade is limited at midday.

Max: park the dog at a shaded outside table, send someone in for the order, and keep every spoonful of gelato to yourself.

Worth knowing

Beyond the scoops, the kitchen turns out fresh waffles and pancakes, panini, sundaes, upside-down thick shakes, custom gelato cakes and take-home tubs, plus coffee. Remember chocolate and macadamia are toxic to dogs, so treat your pup to a sniff of sea air rather than a taste of the menu.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Redcliffe Parade and the side streets, and it fills on weekends and warm evenings, so expect a short walk. If you are already on the coastal path, the shop is easiest reached on foot.

Close by with the dogs

The Clontarf-to-Redcliffe waterfront walkway runs straight past, and for a proper off-lead run Scarborough Dog Beach at Queens Beach North is a short drive north, where City of Moreton Bay allows dogs off-leash on the sand and in the water between the access stairs and the northern rock groyne, any time of day under effective control.
