Dose Oyster Bay

Dose Oyster Bay is the neighbourhood breakfast cafe on the Oyster Bay Road shopping strip in Sydney's south, doing cooked breakfasts, Turkish eggs and a proper vegetarian and vegan spread on White Horse coffee. Dogs get the outdoor tables out front, which on a quiet weekday morning is the best seat on the strip anyway. It opens early and closes at 2pm, so it is strictly a morning-and-lunch place.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables at the front of the cafe, on lead and under control; the inside stays people-only. Water bowls are not a guaranteed fixture, so pack a travel bowl or ask the staff when you order and they will help out. The footpath tables sit back from the shop strip traffic enough for a settled dog, and weekday mornings are the calmest time to claim one.

The vibe

The menu leans classic and generous: bacon and egg rolls, eggs benedict, avocado toast and a matcha list for the non-coffee drinkers. Reviews consistently single out the staff for being welcoming, which extends to the four-legged regulars at the front tables. It is a local cafe rather than a destination, and the better for it, especially if you are folding breakfast into a walk along the Georges River.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in the Oyster Bay Road shops, with free on-site and street parking nearby and a wheelchair-accessible entrance. It opens early every day of the week and closes at 2pm, Sundays slightly later than the rest. If you are coming from further afield in the Shire, it is an easy stop between Como and Sylvania.

Close by with the dogs

Oyster Bay Oval is about 300 metres away for a leg stretch, and the Carina Bay Dog Park is the 24/7 off-leash reserve on the river for a proper run either side of breakfast. The sister cafe Dose Jannali is a few minutes away if this one is full.
