Beach Haven Cafe

Beach Haven Cafe is the coastal local on Lady Gowrie Drive at North Haven, a family-run cafe looking over the marina end of the suburb, and it wears its dog-friendliness openly: dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating, water bowls come out for canine visitors and regulars get featured as Dog of the Month on the cafe's own channels. It is a natural stop either side of a walk along the seawall.

The dog setup

Dogs settle in at the umbrella-covered outdoor seating out front, on lead, with water bowls provided. The cafe is genuinely set up for four-legged regulars rather than merely tolerating them, so staff will usually greet the dog first. Hours are 8am to 2pm Tuesday through Sunday, closed Mondays, which makes it a breakfast and lunch venue; weekends are busiest, so weekday mornings are the easy slot for a table with a dog.

The vibe and the menu

The menu is hearty coastal cafe fare: bacon and egg rolls, milkshakes, hot chips, homemade cakes and ice cream, with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options alongside, and coffee poured with Fleurieu Milk Company dairy. Generous rather than fancy, and the outdoor tables do most of the trade on fine days.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on Lady Gowrie Drive beside the North Haven marina, with parking on the drive itself. North Haven Beach runs north from the marina towards the Outer Harbour breakwater and is dog-friendly with council time rules: off lead under effective control outside daylight savings, and on lead between 10am and 8pm during daylight savings months. A coffee at Beach Haven and a beach walk combine easily. Nearby alternatives include Riverview Cafe on Camden and the Sailmaster Tavern.
